Discovering YSL makeup

I have always admired YSL packaging but never actually owned a makeup item from the brand. Then in Christmas my very thoughtful and generous cousin gifted me with a box full of heaven.

The box contained a Gloss Volupté, a Couture Palette, the Touche Éclat and the Shocking Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils. I then bought a Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick.

First of all, the whole entire makeup brand is a treat for the eyes. The packaging is sophisticated and chic. Looks great on top of my dressing table. Let me review the items I own for those of you that may be interested (swatches included).

Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick in the shade 09 nude in private: this lipstick is a sheer glossy rosy nude colour. Its very comfortable to wear and keeps your lips nice and hydrated. I have to say that I love wearing this lipstick on a daily basis, I sometimes layer it over a lip liner if I want to intensify the colour.

Gloss Volupté shade 102 rose satine: This has a glossy pink shade with ultra fine shimmer. It has the YSL trademark diamond shaped doffer applicator which I really like. You can wear this gloss by itself or you can layer it on top of a lipstick, which is how I prefer to use it.

Both the lip products smell like watermelon sweets to me, I am a fan.

Couture Palette shade 01 tuxedo: This has a great colour selection for a night out. There are 5 shades in the palette, 3 are matte with a slight sheen, 2 shimmer shades and 1 glitter shade. The shades are all well pigmented, except the glitter shade. They are really easy to work with, they blend nicely and have no fall out. If your looking for the perfect classic smoky eye this palette is screaming your name.

Touche Éclat shade 01: I have to admit before using this product I thought it was an over hyped, over priced not very effective concealer. Turns out I didn’t know how to use it. This isn’t a concealer, its more of an illuminator. If you use this over dark circles you will just highlight them rather than conceal them. To make the most out of this product you must first conceal your dark circles with a salmon coloured corrector, then layer the Touche Éclat on top to highlight the area. This will brighten your complexion and make you look more awake.

Shocking Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils: I have to admit this is my least favourite YSL item out of the ones I own. Basically I just think that you can find in the high-street/drugstore liquid eyeliners that work just as good. The eyeliner has a felt tip applicator with a pointed tip, it distributes the product nicely and the colour that comes out is matte black. Its also long-lasting.
